I asked my YouTube subscribers what Selena song they wanted me to remix next – AND THE WINNER IS… CAPTIVE HEART! I wanted to create a 100% original music track and approach the vocals as a complete song. I wanted to bring Selena into a different space- cosmic, fashion, electronic, gritty, and sultry.

I present to you my remix of CAPTIVE HEART.

While creating this remix, I was inspired by Selena's cover of A Boy Like That, imagined an orchestra in space, thinking about living in the city, imaging what Selena would sound like performing on a fashion runway. Oh yeah, I would suggest quality earphones for the best listening experience.

This remix is taken from my first remix EP 'Starpulse Twentyone', which will be released 2/29/2021. I'm SOOO excited to share this project with you all! I've been working on this collection of sounds during the pandemic, reflecting on what being isolated at home with colorful ideas, menacing synths, and purple haze feels and sounds like. I wanted to make music to feel confident to, music to serve looks to, and music inspired by missing the city, the clubs, people, all while at home (again) feeling sometimes very alone but also very ALIVE.

LEARN MORE: www.buddybravo.com/blog/underneaththestars I’m excited to share a new arrangement of Mariah Carey's 1996 song "Underneath The Stars". This original recording is revered by many as one of Mariah's best songs and one of the strongest R&B records Mariah has written and recorded. For me, as a young lamb, I remember really catching the vibe Mariah and long-time writing partner Walter Afanasieff were lying down. I was swept away (in my own youthful head) to the hillside with my imaginary lover with a sky full of glittering stars. As an adult, I imagined that feeling with even more intense romance + natural magic in the sky. The original arrangement captures 1970's soul, R&B, and smokey rooms filled with live music. The vocal layering is delicate, dynamic, and dimensional in a way that sounds atmospheric and ethereal. The static of the vinyl captures nostalgia, one of Mariah's many career consistencies, while the Rhodes piano futhure pushes the throwback feeling. This new arrangement is a different take, stripping away the underbelly of the soulful bass, and replacing it with cellos and strings. Marimba’s and flutes decorate the dampened piano chords and harp flutters- reminiscent of bundles of butterflies. The remix presented a cathartic process for me. 2020 has presented some very tough experiences for many people and personally, I have felt it over-and-over. Being home, lack of work, multiple deaths, a stream of bad news, etc have left me wanting to surround myself with beauty– an abundance of beauty. This production acted as a way for me to hear beautiful things, explore beautiful musical ideas, indulge in Mariah's warm, butter dripped vocals, and escape real-life challenges using real-life beauty. I'm grateful for Virtual Instruments. They have allowed me to conduct an entire orchestra while laying in my bed. I'm grateful for my laptop that is a tool I use to navigate depression. I'm grateful for my family and ancestors who have passed on the gift of music and self-expression. I'm grateful for Mariah Carey for writing words that fully encompass the listeners' imagination and illustrate beautiful emotions and feelings. Thank you fo watching my visual for my new remix of Selena's 1992 song "Missing My Baby" featuring Dua Lipa's "Physical". I wanted to bring Selena into a new decade with pop music. Her potential was beyond anything anyone of us can imagine and her vocal ability works on many different kind of genres.

"Missing My Baby" was oringinally recorded in 1992 for the album Entre a Mi Mundo. It was written as an early 90s R&B song, ala Kieth Sweat, SWV, or Xscape and has a very nice groove to it. When Selena and her production team was gearing up for her first English cross-over album, which became "Dream Of You" in 1995 after her death, "Missing My Baby" was giving a new production and instrumental to match a more adult-contemporary R&B sound.

Now in 2020, you can hear a synth-wave pop interpretation of the song. Selena live from space, vocalizing into the galaxy.
